India's polished diamond exports rise 28% in February

In February 2013, India noted a rise in the value of exports of both its rough and polished diamonds.

In the month, polished diamond exports increased in value by 28 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $1.841 billion, while its volumes fell 7 percent to 2.819 million carats. The country's polished diamond imports dropped 11 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $474.74 million.

The net polished exports (valued as exports less imports) increased 50 percent to $1.366 billion. Rough diamond exports increased 59 percent to $170.75 million, but rough diamond imports dropped 3 percent to $1.313 billion. Th country's net rough imports (valued as excess of imports over exports) dipped 8 percent to $1.143 billion. The country's net diamond account in the said month, (valued as total exports of polished and rough less total imports) increased to $223.68 million (the same stood at a deficit of $333.04 million in the corresponding month in 2012).
